JUBA – South Sudan opposition leader, Peter Mayen Majokdit, is claiming he has the right – with the virtue of negotiating peace deal on behalf of government-allied opposition parties – to choose who should be nominated to the various government positions allocated to the Other Opposition Parties (OPP) in the revitalized government, both at the national, state and local levels.

In October, the leadership of the OPP nominated its members who would serve as deputy governors in three states of Central Equatoria, Warrap  and Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, but were informed later by the presidency that the names have been replaced by Peter Mayen.

Mayen who is also the country’s minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management said because he negotiated and signed the revitalized peace agreement on behalf of the OPP, he has all the prerogative to nominate group’s representatives to various positions in the government.

“It’s me who signed the agreement on behalf of the OPP and it is me who negotiated the power on behalf of the OPP and it is me to make sure that all the OPP are part and parcel of this government either at the state level, at the national level and the county level,” Mayen was quoted by the Juba-based Eye Radio.

“So all these encompasses under the leadership of the OPP,” he added.
