In a statement, Emmanuel Khamis Richard, who was appointed last week to replace Michael Lado Allah Jabu said that security forces have been instructed to clear all street vendors from the main roads and markets in Juba.
The vendors are said to be blocking traffic and creating a nuisance.
The order has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have welcomed the move, saying that it will improve the security situation in Juba.
Others have expressed concern about the impact on the vendors, who say that they will lose their livelihoods if they are forced to leave the streets.
Khamis, who is also the Commissioner of Lanya County challenged the security organs to submit daily written security reports and to stop double parking of vehicles in all main roads and streets in Juba City.
“All security organs are directed to ensure that washing of vehicles along main roads and streets is stopped with immediate effect,” he said.
He went on to reveal that he has directed that “All Licenses for Night Discos are suspended and all Disco clubs to be closed down until further directives” and “Mangalawi Petrol Station Located near Juba Teaching Hospital to be closed immediately.”
