KHARTOUM – Prominent South Sudan opposition leader, Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, has said that South Sudan’s National Dialogue which concluded in the country’s capital Juba on Tuesday is meant to avoid the hybrid court provided for in the revitalized peace agreement.

Akol, along with SPLM-IO leader and First Vice-president Dr. Riek Machar Teny, is one of few opposition leaders who have rejected the National Dialogue for it is a ‘deviation’ from the revitalized peace agreement.

Last month, Dr. Akol was invited along with Machar to participate in the National Dialogue’s National conference which ended with calls for return to 32 states in Juba on Tuesday, but the two powerful political figures declined the invitation.

In a tweet, Akol said the National Dialogue is meant to restore the 32 states imposed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit in October 2015, but revoked after regional pressure in February this year.

“As expected the whole charade was about recycling the 32 States, imposing the Presidential system and avoiding the Hybrid Court. The cat is out of the bag. The South Sudanese will not be taken in. They have R-ARCSS to implement,” the powerful opposition leader wrote.

“I am already in the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement. This is why I wouldn’t entertain side shows meant to derail it such as the “National Dialogue” ala Beda and Co. The trick is so transparent,” he wrote in another tweet.
