JUBA — The Sudanese government has reportedly informed SPLM-IO diplomats in the Sudanese capital Khartoum that it intents shut down their office there, according to a senior SPLM-IO official who is informed of the decision.

According to the official, there has not been any given reason as to why the SPLM-IO chapter and mission are t be closed and said they have been given one week to comply with the orders.

“They went to our office here in Khartoum yesterday, according to what I was told, and they requested us to close the office within one week,” the official who preferred to be identified said from the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

“According to the information reaching me, they were asked to give reasons as to why they are closing down the offices, but I think someone is lobbying for the displacement of the SPLM-IO in Sudan,” he added.

Contacts to SPLM-IO head of mission in Khartoum were unsuccessful and a spokesman at First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Ateny’s office referred Sudans Post to the SPLM-IO mission in Khartoum.
