William Wol Mayom, Warrap state’s information and communication minister, said in a statement seen by Sudans Post that the attackers came from both neighboring states of Lakes and Unity.
“Five innocent civilians lost their lives and ten others sustained gunshot wounds when armed youth from Pakam in Rumbek North County, Lakes State, and Nuer Adol of Panyijiar in Unity State, carried out a joint attack on cattle camps in Luacjang,” Wol said.
The attacks targeted camps in Anguoth, Malek, and Ajakdul, Wol said.
“Cattle owners in Luacjang promptly detected the attackers and managed to repel them before they could steal any cattle,” Wol added. “However, there were casualties on our side.”
Wol condemned what he described as ongoing violence against the Luacjang community.
“The Warrap State Government is committed to finding a peaceful resolution to these conflicts,” Wol said. “Our condolences go out to the bereaved families. We urge the Luacjang community to remain calm.”
Authorities in Rumbek, Lakes state’s capital, and Bentiu, Unity State, could not be immediately reached for comment.
