Top opposition commander shot dead by unknown assailants

A senior South Sudan opposition commander allied to the National Salvation Front (NAS) faction led by General Khalid Boutros Bora has been shot dead in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area by unidentified gunmen, according to a statement extended to Sudans Post.

JUBA – A senior South Sudan opposition commander allied to National Salvation Front (NAS) faction led by General Khalid Boutros Bora has been shot dead in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area by unidentified gunmen, according to a statement extended to Sudans Post.

Lieutenant General Longoben Waya was killed by the unknown assailants in Pibor on the night of August 12, 2021 while returning home from a local market place where he was meeting fellow members of the NAs faction.

“On behalf of leadership of National Salvation Front (NAS) under able leader Lt. Gen. Khalid Boutros Bora, l regrets to inform our members, supporters, and the public, of the untimely death of Lt. Gen. Longoben Waya on 12th August 2021 in Pibor,” Jacob Lado, the spokesman of the NAS faction under General Khalid Boutros said in statement.

“Late Lt. Gen. Longoben Waya was one of the NAS Outstanding and high ranking military Officer, he was shot dead by unknown gunman at 6:00Am in Pibor,” the statement added.

It further said that the NAs faction condemns the killing and urged authorities in Pibor to investigate and killing and apprehend those found to have carried out the murder.

“The leadership strongly in all possible terms condemned this barbaric act and ask the authorities of the greater Pibor administrative area to investigate the incident and comprehend the culprits to face justice,” the statement said.

“Our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family, relatives and people of greater Pibor. God gives and God takes let his name be glorified,” the statement added.
