This comes after the presidential advisor on security affairs Tut Gatluak Manimeh said during the graduation of the last batch of the forces in phase one in Unity State’s capital Bentiu that the peace forces in phase two of the security arrangements have been directed to report to training centers.
In a statement, Yakani who is the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) welcomed the government directive for assembling of the forces in phase two and calling on the government to deploy the forces who graduated from phase one before the end of the current transitional period in February 2023.
“CEPO welcomes the quick response of the government to our advocacy call for the remaining faces of the training, graduating and redeploying the necessary unified forces should be completed before the end of transitional period on 22nd February 2023,” Yakani said in the statement extended to Sudans Post.
The prominent activist further stressed that “Genuine implementation of transitional security arrangements is a key cornerstone for the success of the political transitional process in” the world’s youngest country.
“While 20 days have been given for the remaining forces to report to training centers, it is essential that the already graduated forces should be officially redeployed across the country for secure protection of civilians,” Yakani stressed.
He said that beginning of the training of the forces in phase two of the revitalized peace agreement “will not be not good” unless the forces who have already been graduated are deployed to the towns to render protection to the civil population.
