72.
POLICEMAN A
Yes. The car has started to move.
Without gas and oil, how else can I
make it run?
THE AMERASIAN'S MOTHER
(Dejectedly)
Please wait for a moment.
She gets up and walks to the bedroom as Policeman A walks to the
gate to look out in all directions and then walks back. He leaves the
door ajar. A moment later, the woman comes out of the bedroom and
places three gold bars on the table. The gold is carefully wrapped in
plastic. She hesitates a little and then mumbles:
THE AMERASIAN'S MOTHER (CONT'D)
Do you give a receipt?
POLICEMAN A
(Arching his eyebrows)
What receipt? If you don't trust
me, then let's stop now. I am
refueling, so I can't give you a
receipt.
THE AMERASIAN'S MOTHER
(Sadly)
Ok, I will have to trust you since
there is nothing else I can do. But
you must keep your promise to help
my son overcome this difficulty. If
he can truly avoid it, I won't have
any regrets, even if it is very
expensive.
She says this, but as she watches Policeman A take the three gold
bars and put them in his pocket, she feels a sharp pain in her heart.
Policeman A pretends to be concerned.
