This comes after 1st. Lt. Simon Gatwech Dual declared himself unilaterally as the interim leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition (SPLM/SPLA-IO).

Speaking to Nyamilepedia, the spokesman of the SPLM-IO Chapter in Arab Republic of Egypt, Cde. Gattiek Wichar says they have no people, who have officially switched their political allegiance to the self-proclaimed Chairman but he the situation is under control.

The Cairo Chapter said that all its  membership remains loyal to the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar.

“I believe the SPLM-IO leadership in Egypt remains supportive to peace which is being implemented in Juba by the First Vice, Dr Riek Machar Teny and President Salva Kiir Mayardit” SPLM-IO Chapter spokesman Gattiek Wichar said.

“We are not happy with the decision taken by Former Chief of General Staff Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual because it is decisive and we don’t have people also in Egypt who supported his idea and no person declared himself officially so far but as SPLM_IO leadership in Egypt, we have started raising awareness to the masses who may easily blinded fold at anytime by Gatwech but as per now we have confirmed through numerous phone calls that no one individual in Egypt supporting the unilateral declaration of Gen. Dual ” Wichar added.

Wichar further reiterated that the most challenging part is lack of communication between the SPLM-IO diaspora offices and the top leadership in Juba, adding that prioritizing young people’s voices in decision making positions will mitigate all these meltdown.

“The only challenge we have here in Egypt chapter is lack of information exchange between the SPLM_IO top leaders in Juba most of whom are now national ministers and their voices matter a lot because they can influence most of the things but at this current internal crisis in the ranks and files of the SPLM_IO, I believe that the only possible mean for us to overcome all challenges is to reconsider young educated Cadres and assign them into decision making positions in the movement because they are more concerned about their future and their country as well more than the old men who have been defecting since 2014” he emphasized.
