FIFA President, Giovanni Infantino says 2022 will be a year of action and dialogue for football across the world.

In the Statement issued in ZURICH, Switzerland, on Thursday Mr Infantino said the world football governing body will design a path that will boost global competitiveness in football.

“2022 will be a year of action, but it will also be a year of dialogue. The new FIFA is a democratic body and together with our stakeholders, we will design the path for football’s future, making the game fit for purpose in the modern era and ensuring that we can boost global competitiveness,” Mr Infantino in his new year message said.

He said that the 2022 FIFA World Cup holding for the first time in the Middle East will be used as a medium to re-unite the world again.

The outbreak of COVID-19 had forced countries to impose social and economic restrictions, further worsening the global social and economic gap.

The pandemic also forced the world football governing body to postpone the FIFA World Cup tournaments from 2021 to 2022.

Mr Infantino however said the FIFA tournament scheduled for 2022 will be used as a medium to celebrate football and social inclusion.

He added that the governing body will continue to host tournaments with the consciousness of the new global health situation.

“Whether in the United Arab Emirates for the FIFA Club World Cup, Costa Rica for the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, India for the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup or indeed Qatar, FIFA tournaments will continue to operate with the consideration that #HealthComesFirst.”
