Nwankwo Kanu, Jay Jay Okocha, Taribo West and other ex-Super Eagles players have thrown their support behind the 2023 presidential ambition of former Lagos state governor Bola Tinubu.

In a video of Mr Tinubu’s meeting with the ex-Internationals seen on Twitter, Taribo West, former footballer turned pastor, led the prayer session.

“We speak to the four corners of these nations, I command them to be arrested. That Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s movement could be established,” Taribo prayed, while the others chorused amen.

Leading presidential aspirant and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Tinubu had contracted the Ex-Super Eagles players for a novelty match to celebrate his 70th birthday.

Since Mr Tinubu declared to contest for president in January, several critics have continued to raise questions about his health and corruption perception.

Mr Tinubu returned to Nigeria last October after spending three months in a London hospital treating knee injury.

His critics, however, fear Mr Tinubu might end up as another President Muhammadu Buhari, who has so far spent in total over 200 days traveling to London for an undisclosed ailment.

In February, Peoples Gazette published a video of Mr Tinubu’s dress soaked from behind, eliciting fresh criticisms.

Days later, Mr Tinubu’s estranged protégé, Rauf Aregbesola, who is also the minister of interior, derided him at a political rally, saying “won ti n to ara”, an expression meaning “they’re already urinating on themselves”, in native Yoruba language.

The Gazette had also published series of damning reports on Mr Tinubu’s corrupt enrichment via questionable Lagos tax administration through Alpha Beta.

The newspaper also uncovered how Mr Tinubu’s Alpha Beta siphoned billions through shell companies.
