Abu Dhabi to host FIFA Club World Cup for fifth time
The United Arab Emirates has concluded plans with the Federation of International Football Association to host the FIFA club world cup in 2022 for the fifth time.
The competition which will feature Chelsea, UAE’s Aljazira, and five other clubs, was initially scheduled to hold in Germany but was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.
Expressing UAE’s delight in hosting the competition, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Aref Hamad Al Awani, said “the competition brings both the fan-favourite clubs and players from around the world.
Describing it as an honour, Mr Al Awani thanked FIFA for “the confidence and faith they have in us, based on the past successes of playing host to this immensely popular competition.”
Although no official date for the competition has been set, FIFA has stated that it will take place in early 2022, which means that the Middle East will now host two major global football events in the same year, with Qatar hosting the World Cup in November 2022.
