Ex-international Bright Omokaro has called on the handlers of the Super Eagles to ensure victory in the team’s first match against Egypt at the 2022 Cameroon Africa Cup of Nations.

“Our first match is a must-win, and I know we can achieve it,” he stated. “Egypt or not, all we have to do is study our opponents, watch their previous matches, understand their pattern of play and counter it.”

Omokaro, a former Super Eagles defender, said this in an interview on Monday in Lagos.

With barely a week to the 33rd edition of the Nations Cup, Omokaro said he had confidence in the ability of Austin Eguaveon, the team’s head coach.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Group D will run from January 9 to February 6.

“For any team to have qualified for the Nations Cup, it means you have what it takes to lift the trophy,” Omokaro added. “I know it won’t be a walk in the park, but I so much believe in the ability of my brother Eguaveon, he understands our football, and he will give a good account of himself.”

Omokaro, also fondly called 10/10, urged the players to play according to their coaches’ instructions and as a team.

Algeria won the last edition in 2019, with a 1-0 win against Tunisia, Nigeria came in third.
