Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has now tested to negative to COVID-19 days after he pulled out African Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to the illness.

Osimhen’s participation at AFCON has been reeled in controversy due to his health issues.
The striker was initially expected to sit out the competition due to a facial injury he sustained playing for his club but he made an unexpected recovery after undergoing surgery.

Osimhen, who scored five goals for the Super Eagles during the AFCON qualifiers, thereafter said he would be available to represent his country during the competition except he does not make the list.

His club Napoli however expressed reservation for his avowed willingness to represent his country, insisting that the doctor had not certified him fit to play. Napoli had also threatened to sue the Nigerian Football Federation should Osimhen represent it in the competition.

The controversy was summarily concluded after the club doctors tested Osimhen positive for Covid-19.

Now that Osimhen has tested negative for the virus, he is expected to continue playing at club level while his African counterparts represent their countries at AFCON.
