A 2010 tweet of newly installed Twitter CEO, Parag Agrawal, has resurfaced on the social media platform hours after taking over from founder Jack Dorsey.

In the tweet, the Indian-American stated there was no difference between white people and racists.

“If they are not gonna make a distinction between Muslims and extremists, then why should I distinguish between white people and racists,” Mr Agrawal tweeted

At the time of filing this report, Peoples Gazette was unable to verify if he was speaking for himself or quoting a third party as he didn’t attribute the quote to anyone.

A Google search for the statement by The Gazette didn’t bring up any related source apart from Mr Parag’s tweet. Mr Agrawal later tweeted that he was quoting someone from a Daily Show segment that held that night in 2010.

A spokesperson for Twitter did not immediately respond to The Gazette request for comment when reached on Monday.

On Monday, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced his resignation, saying that Mr Agrawal, Twitter’s Chief Technology Officer, would take his place.

Mr Agrawal had been vocal about free speech no longer being a focus point for the social media company before assuming office at the helm of affairs.

“Our role is not to be bound by the First Amendment, but our role is to serve a healthy public conversation and our moves are reflective of things that we believe lead to a healthier public conversation,” Mr Agrawal said during an interview with the MIT Technology Review last year.

“The kinds of things that we do about this is, focus less on thinking about free speech, but thinking about how the times have changed,” he had added.
