Somtochukwu Udeze, a lawmaker representing Ogbaru 2 constituency, Anambra House of Assembly, has called for continuous training of local government staff to guarantee efficient service delivery.

Mr Udeze made the call on Wednesday.

The lawmaker, chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts and Minority Whip, said the training would enhance professionalism and productivity in council areas.

He added that the call was necessitated by his experience when the council’s leadership appeared before his committee for the verification of their audited accounts for 2019 and 2020.

Mr Udeze also explained that the training would enthrone transparency and accountability, reduce expenses, discourage corruption and save money for the government.

He noted that although the council’s leadership had kept its records straight, which encouraged transparency in public accounting system, but training of its staff was needed for them to performance better in key areas.

Mr Udeze further mentioned that training and retraining of officers would discourage waste of funds and advised government to see it as an urgent need of the council.
