Ash Barty defeated American Danielle Collins in straight sets to win Australia’s first Grand Slam title since 1978. She won the first set comfortably 6-3 but the second set proved to be a lot more competitive as she eventually edged it out 7-6 (2) after being down 1-5. Ash has now won three of the four Grand Slams and is 3-0 in grand slam finals.
World number one Barty also won 14 consecutive sets enroute to this title as she became one of only two women, alongside Serena Williams to win three different grand slam titles and the season ending WTA Final.
She’s also one of five players, along with Serena Williams and the men’s big three of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic as active players to win on three different surfaces.
