Bandits, other criminals displaced 47,000 people in Nasarawa in 2021: Official
Zachary Zamani-Allumaga, the executive secretary, Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA), says that no fewer than 47,675 people were displaced across the state in 2021.
Mrs Zamani-Allumaga said of the figure, 40,000 have returned to their ancestral homes.
“Out of this figure, over 40,000 IDPs have returned home, leaving only a few in their various camps across the state,” she told journalists on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.
Mrs Zamani-Allumaga said that the IDPs were products of humanitarian crises ranging from farmers/herders crisis and communal crisis among others.
She listed Awe, Obi, Doma, Keana, Toto, and Lafia local government areas as some of the humanitarian crises areas that had recorded the number of IDPs in the state.
Mrs Zamani-Allumaga also urged farmers/herders and other people of the state to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliations.
