The Bauchi State Government says it has spent about N150 million on the construction of additional waste collection sites in the state.

Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hamisu Shira, said the amount was also used to procure additional payloaders, repairs of six trucks and a water tanker.

“The payloaders and trucks are to be used for waste clearance exercise at the collection sites,” he said.

Mr Shira said the ministry had conducted a stakeholders’ meeting designed to map out strategies towards enhancing environmental protection in the state.

He reiterated the commitment of the state government to ensure compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, to protect the environment and safeguard public health.

“We will not relent in ensuring effective enforcement of the existing environmental laws in the state,” adding that most of the environmental problems were man-made.
