Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son gets bail in drug case
An Indian court on Thursday granted Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, bail of 26 days after he was arrested on suspicion of using drugs.
The Bombay High Court granted Khan and his friends Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha bail, lawyers representing them said.
All three are in their twenties.
“A detailed order will be given tomorrow. They should be free by tomorrow (Friday) or Saturday,’’ Mukul Rohatgi, the lawyer for Aryan Khan and former attorney general of India, said outside court.
The younger Khan was arrested with several others on October 3 by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) as they boarded a cruise ship headed for the seaside resort of Goa.
Charges against Khan included consumption of drugs, lawyers representing him said.
Khan’s lawyers claimed in court that there was no evidence against their client.
His father is one of India’s most popular actors, and the case has been making daily headlines.
Allegations of drug use in the Mumbai film industry and NCB investigations have been in the limelight since the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020.
The latest arrests have led to frenzied debates over the NCB mandate to bust major drug cartels and their methods of investigations and the current focus on film industry individuals.
