BRT where Bamise was killed had no CCTV, tracker: Sanwo-Olu
Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says the locally purchased Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in which Bamise Ayanwola, a 22-year old was killed, needed reconfiguration to enable installation of Close Circuit Television, CCTV.
“All of our BRT buses that we procured two and a half years ago have CCTV cameras and trackers,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said “but the additional ones we bought locally last year are the ones that have not been installed because we have to do a lot of configurations before you can put CCTV cameras on them.”
The governor disclosed this on Wednesday while speaking with journalists, adding that he is in talks with the manufacturers to ensure CCTV are installed in the buses.
“You need to do a lot of configuration before you can put CCTV cameras in them so we are speaking with the manufacturers of that. I don’t need to mention names but they were purchased locally.
That is the unfortunate one this particular incident happened,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said.
Ms Ayanwola went missing after boarding a BRT. She was found dead at Carter Bridge at Ogogoro Community, Lagos, with her body mutilated. The development sparked public outrage and calil for justice for the slain lady.
The bus driver, Nice Andrew Omininikoron, suspected of kidnapping the victim, was arrested on Monday and is already singing about the murder.
