There appears to be no love lost between President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The two were recently seen in a friendly exchange as they greeted each other, fist-bumping to the admiration of onlookers.

The event was the wedding fatiha of Yusuf Buhari, son of Mr Buhari, and Zahra Bayero, daughter of the emir of Bichi, who is also the chairman of telecommunications company 9mobile, Nasiru Ado Bayero.

The wedding ceremony between Mr Buhari, 27, a graduate of the University of Surrey, Guildford, United Kingdom and Ms Zahra, 19, took place on Friday in Kano.

Mr Abubakar, who challenged but lost to Mr Buhari at the 2019 presidential polls, recently criticised the latter’s handling of the country’s affairs.

According to him, Mr Buhari has in six years reversed hard-won policies initiated by previous governments to foster unity amongst Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and religious entities since Independence in 1960.

The wedding ceremony, which started at 1:30 p.m., had dignitaries such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, vice president Yemi Osinbanjo, former vice president Atiku Abubakar, amongst others in attendance.

Photos from the ceremony were shared by a presidential aide, Buhari Sallau on his Instagram page.

One of the pictures shared by Mr Sallau was the one that showed Mr Buhari and Mr Abubakar exchanging pleasantries with a fist bump.

Mr Abubakar also shared the pictures on his Twitter page with the caption, “At the wedding Fatiha of President Muhammadu Buhari’s son, Yusuf and Zahra, daughter of Emir of Bichi, Nasir Ado-Bayero, in Kano today.

On behalf of my family, I wish the newlyweds a blessed marriage.”
