Cameroon wallop Nigeria’s under-18 girls volleyball team

“We will work hard to win our last match against Nigeria.”

Cameroon once again beat Nigeria 3-0 on Sunday at the ongoing Under-18 Girls African Nations Volleyball Championship in Abuja.

The match, held at the indoor sports hall of Moshood Abiola National Stadium, saw Cameroon win the match 25-14, 25-14, 25-22.

Speaking after the match, Nigeria’s coach, Elishama Elam, said they were expecting a change in their fortunes from the second meeting with Cameroon.

“My girls did not do well in the first and second sets. Their performance was not alright. But it was unfortunate that they did not win their game,” he stated.

Mr. Elam added that although they listened to all the instructions given to them.

“But we will work on our lapses to win our third game. We need to go back to the drawing board and do the needful ahead of our third game on Monday. My players are good and talented. I need to work hard on them so that we can win our last match,” he noted.

On his part, the Cameroon team coach, Emile Tong Tong, said they won their second game against Nigeria as a result of adequate preparation.

“The girls have been in camp since December, and we have been training regularly, four days every week of serious training. We worked hard to deserve this victory, and we will work on our lapses to win our third game.

“We have played a lot of friendly games in Cameroon, and we will work hard to win our last match against Nigeria,” he said.

The Under-18 Girls and Under-19 Boys African Nations Volleyball Championships, which started on Thursday, are expected to end on Tuesday.
