China has taken measures against the United States over the sale of weapons to Taiwan and imposed sanctions on Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Technologies.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin on Monday said China would continue to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty.

“In order to protect the sovereignty and security interests of China, and in accordance with the provisions of the ‘Foreign Sanctions Prevention Act’, the Chinese government has decided to take countermeasures in response to the actions of the American military-industrial companies Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Technologies.

“The two companies had been involved in supplying Taiwan with American weapons for a long time,’’ Mr Wenbin told a briefing.

On February 8, the U.S. authorised a $100 million deal with Taiwan for the maintenance of U.S. made Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.

Mr Wenbin added that China has called on the U.S. to stop selling arms to Taiwan and follow all the agreements concluded by Beijing and Washington.

According to him, China will take all necessary measures to protect its security and sovereignty.
