Court remands Oduduwa University owner, Rahman Adedoyin, over death of OAU student

The presiding judge overruled a bail application by the defence counsel and ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.

The Osogbo Division of the Osun State High Court on Thursday remanded Rahman Adedoyin and six other suspects over the death of Timothy Adegoke.

Mr Adedoyin and other defendants are standing trial on an 11-count charge bothering on conspiracy , murder , attempted to felony , unlawful interference with a dead body, altering and intent to destroy evidence.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding  judge, also the Chief Judge of Osun, Adepele Ojo, overruled a bail application by the defence counsel and ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.

She urged all counsels to ensure  a speedy trial of the case within a short stipulated time and adjourned the case till March 4.

Ms Ojo, therefore , said that  the application for bail by the seventh defendant would be heard on  March 4 , 2022 while the judge ordered all the defendants to be remanded at the  Ilesa Correctional Centre.

The other defendants are: Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwole Florence, Oyetunde Kazeem, Adebayo Kunle and Adedeji Adesola.

Peoples Gazette had earlier reported that Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University, lodged at Hilton Hotel and Resort, owned by Mr Adedoyin, on November 5 to sit for an examination at the university in Osun State.

Mr Adegoke was later declared missing by his relatives. He was later found dead and buried in shallow grave near the hotel; his body was found mutilated.

Mr Adedoyin’s son, Roheem Adedoyin, a prime suspect of the alleged murder, is still on the run.

The Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) of the Nigeria Police in Abuja dropped charges against Mr Adedoyin after Femi Falana, the lawyer representing the family, requested that the case be transferred to Osun State.
