COVID-19 breaks out at Nigerian High Commission in London
The Nigerian High Commission in London has suspended operations as novel coronavirus breaks out in its office.
In a notice seen by Peoples Gazette on Thursday, the commission said it decided to suspend operations after two of its officials tested positive for COVID-19.
On discovery of the fresh COVID-19 case at a meeting at the UK home office on Thursday, the commission tested all its officials, discovering another positive case afterward, the notice said.
It disclosed that it will be suspending operations for 10 days, to allow its staff go on a mandatory isolation in line with COVID-19 regulations of the host country.
“In line with COVID-19 regulation and the need to adhere to the rules and regulation of the host country, the Mission will close down for the next 10 days, in order to observe the mandatory isolation of those who were in contact with the affected officials,” the commission said in the notice.
“While the High Commission regrets any inconvenience that this may have caused, we solicit the cooperation of the general public,” it added.
The development comes as the world continues to battle different variants of the deadly virus.
