Bamidele, however, insists that the APC primary was a “sham, a charade and flagrant abrasion of democracy ethos.”

Aggrieved governorship aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary in Ekiti State, Opeyemi Bamidele, has sheathed his sword.

Mr Bamidele, in a statement, said that although he vowed to take legal actions against the party, he would no longer be interested in dragging the party or individuals to court over the outcome of the exercise.

He also dismissed rumours that he would be defecting from the ruling party. “I have chosen to drop the option of going to court to sue the party.

“The other is to make it crystal clear to everyone that both my supporters and I will not defect from APC,” he noted in a statement on Friday.

The current senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Mr Bamidele said he had to change his earlier position after some stakeholders intervened and appealed to him to have a rethink.

This, he stated, was for the sake of unity and cohesion in the APC in the state.

“It is about the unity and progress of Ekiti State and her politically undermined and economically afflicted people,” he said.

He, however, still described the exercise as a “sham, a charade and flagrant abrasion of democracy ethos.”

Mr Bamidele maintained that his latest action did not mean he had abandoned the struggle to right the wrongs and make the party truly democratic.

Shortly after the governorship primary, Mr Bamidele threatened to head to court to challenge the outcome.

The senator and six other aspirants in the state had accused APC of conducting a fraudulent governorship primary election.
