Nigerian  government says ban on Twitter will soon be lifted as the micro-blogging site has agreed to register for business in Nigeria.

The micro-blogging platform was banned on June 4 following deletion of President Muhammadu Buhari’s genocidal tweet against the Igbos.

Speaking after Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, information minister Lai Mohammed said the ban would soon be lifted on Twitter.

Mr Mohammed claimed that Twitter has accepted condition put forward by Nigerian government.

“We appreciate the patience of Nigerians. I want to assure you that we have made very tremendous progress. We have met with Twitter both physically and in writing. We are actually almost there,” Mr Mohammed said. “The engagement has been extremely positive without any acrimony. We have made it clear what we want from Twitter.”

The ban on Twitter has been widely condemned and challenged in court by civil societies, activists and some media organisation.
