Governor Seyi Makinde says his administration has recruited 5,000 additional teachers and 700 non-teaching staff.

In his remarks at the induction of the staff, held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Mr Makinde promised to keep training and retraining teachers, including providing them with the necessary support.

He charged the teachers to always put the state’s interest first in the discharge of their duties and to see themselves as indispensable partners in the task of repositioning the state.

Mr Makinde, who identified education as one of the pillars of his administration, charged the teachers to be hardworking.

“So, I ask you to partner us, to continue to make the kind of progress we are making, so we will continue to train and retrain you and provide opportunities for you,” the governor said.

Akinade Alamu, chairman of the state’s post-primary schools’ Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), pointed out that recruitment of the new teachers was free.

He noted that the government employed the teachers based on merit.

Mr Alamu lauded Mr Makinde for approving the training of the recruited teachers, saying that the training would go a long way in enhancing their performance.
