The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned motorists to desist from travelling with petrol in jerry cans in their vehicles.

Sikiru Alonge, the FRSC Unit Commander in Ore, gave this warning on Monday in Ore, Ondo state.

Mr Alonge said it was dangerous to put jerry cans loaded with fuel in the car, warning that it could result in loss of life and property.

He urged motorists to buy the quantity of fuel that would be enough for their journey in order not to put their lives and the lives of other passengers on board their vehicles in danger.

“As the fuel scarcity still persists, we need to take safety precautions by not travelling with jerry cans loaded with fuel in our vehicles.

“Anything can happen along the line as the petrol can cause security breaches, loss of life and property,” Mr Alonge said.

He also urged motorists to always be patient and drive within the regular speed limit to avoid crashes on the highway.

Mr Alonge said FRSC personnel would arrest motorists caught with fuel loaded in their vehicles and any erring motorists who flout traffic rules.
