GOTW: Skitmakers suffer drags; Regina Daniel, Jaruma part ways; Obi Cubana speaks on EFCC ordeal

Peoples Gazette brings a weekly rundown of notable happenings around the showbiz world.

• November 7, 2021

Nigerians online poured invectives on a select group of skit makers who visited Vice President Yemi Osinbajo during the week.

The ‘disappointed’ youths began dragging the social media comedians as soon as pictures of their jaw-jaw with the country’s number two man hit the blogosphere, with some labelling them “sell-outs”.

Skit makers such as Taaooma, Woli Agba, Josh2funny, Mr Hyenana and many more were in attendance at the occasion.

Many Nigerian youths on social media are vexed with authorities over mis-governance and highhandedness against the youths. This was highlighted during the October 2020 #EndSARS protests against police brutality that shook the nation and subsequent civil rebellion that has been simmering throughout the country in the wake of Twitter ban in the country.

Though the attendees of the vice-president’s meeting claim they were there in their professional capacity on the entourage of the Nigerian Skitmakers Award, they also claimed to have seized the opportunity to engage the government on the challenges of youths in the country.

Nigerians however rebuffed their explanation, maintaining that their invitation was orchestrated by politicians to infiltrate their teeming followers in preparation for 2023 general elections.

Some angry reactions on social media were collated.

Unable to bear the heat, Taaooma took to various social media platforms to apologize to Nigerians.

“I’m really sorry if I have offended anyone by going that way, but I achieved my aim. I said all I could straight to the VP. The VP’s media team were in charge of photos and videos, I might have fully declined if I knew that I won’t be able to go in with my camera or phone,” she tweeted.

Nigerians also commended Mr Macaroni who blatantly declined the invitation.

In another news, notable aphrodisiac seller Hauwa Saidu, better known as Karuna, and Regina Daniels, ended their friendship over the kayanmata dispute.

Laila, Regina’s Moroccan co-wife had publicly called off her marriage with their billionaire husband,Ned Nwoko. The disclosure spurred speculations online that Regina might have locked her man down, away from Laila, using supplies from her friend Jaruma.

Kaduna quickly jumped on the wild insinuation to market the efficacy of her aphrodisiac but her endorsement of the rumour did not go down well with Regina who proceeded to issue a disclaimer.

“This is for clarity’s sake…. I have and will never use any kayamata products. Jaruma paid me to help make random posts for her. I personally gave my terms concerning the kind of posts to be made, I was very mindful with my choice of words so as not to mislead the public, I was simply creating awareness for her brand.

“She constantly uses every opportunity to create content to profit off my person and my brand even after our payment deal expired. I tolerated it because Ibelieved I understood her person and felt I should give her the benefit of doubt and maintain a cordial friendship. But this time, I will not tolerate Jaruma using this issue that practically portrays me as a bad person for her selfish desires knowing fully well that I have NEVER AND WILL NEVER USE whatever she sells as I have no reason to…

And this is a notice to my fans and the general public, I and my brand As Regina Daniels has no business/association with Jaruma and her products. Thank you,” she posted.

The duo, who had publicly exhibited their friendship online, have now gone their separate ways.

Over the week businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu popularly known as Obi Cubana was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

On November 1, it was reported that the businessman was at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja over alleged money laundering and tax fraud.

The billionaire who was recently awarded “man of the year” was said to be interrogated and detained by the EFCC officials.

He was eventually released on November 2.

The socialite took to his Instagram to celebrate his release as he appreciated his fans and friends.

“Okpataozueora! I love you all, UNBROKEN!! #Manof theyear,” he captioned.

The 46-year-old became a social media sensation after the lavish manner he and his friends buried his mother in Anambra State months ago.
