Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi has ordered the immediate release of N3.1 billion for the continuation of the payment of 2019 workers’ gratuity and death benefits in the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the acting Head of Service, Safiyanu Garba-Bena on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.

“The workers comprising those from State, 21 local government areas and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) staff who disengaged in 2019.

“This is in line with the present administration’s policy on the general welfare of retired workers in the state,” he said.

Mr Garba-Bena added that the payment was in addition to the earlier directive on January 17, for the release of N381.7 million as the balance for state workers who retired from service in 2017 and 2018.

“The directives for the two payments are from the N6 billion earlier approved by the governor, while reconciliation exercise is continuing in respect of 2020 and 2021,” the head of service said.
