On Monday, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti presented the staff of office to the new Obaleo of Erinmope-Ekiti, Sunday Aniyi.

Mr Fayemi, presenting the traditional ruler with his staff of office, charged him to work with his subjects for the development of the town.

The governor urged the university teacher-turned-traditional ruler to be tolerant, open-minded, and diligent in the day-to-day administration of his domain.

Mr Fayemi, represented by Deputy Governor Bisi Egbeyemi, also encouraged the subjects to rally round the traditional ruler to ensure the growth, progress, and socio-economic development of their community.

The throne of the Obaleo of Erinmope Ekiti became vacant following the demise of James Olaifa Aina on May 22, 2021.

Mr Fayemi, who said the selection process was devoid of political colouration and influence, reiterated his respect for the traditional institution, given its roles in peace-building and agents of grassroots development.

He also said the importance of the traditional institution informed the determination of his administration in ensuring the filling of vacant royal stools in accordance with the extant rules and regulations.

According to him, this ensures that traditional rulers continue to play advisory and reconciliatory roles in their domains.

“This position calls for considerable diligence, sacrifice, initiative, and perseverance. You are to work in cooperation with your people to accelerate the development in Erinmope Ekiti,” stated the governor. “I am sure that with your antecedent and experience, it would not be difficult for you to foster unity among your people and transform your community to an enviable status.”

Mr Aniyi, joined by his wife, Omoyeni Aniyi, in receiving the staff of office, said destiny had thrust the royal duties on him, which he promised to discharge to the best of his ability and make the town proud.
