The Freedom Network Group has described Saliu Mustapha (one of the candidates contesting the APC national chairmanship) as the best person to lead the party into the next election cycle.

Lukman Ahmed, national coordinator of the group, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

He said Mr Mustapha, the Turaki of the llorin Emirate, deserved to be the party’s national chairman for his decent campaigns devoid of personal attacks and insults.

According to Mr Ahmed, what the APC needs is a unifier that exemplifies what President Muhammadu Buhari outlined in his reaction to the party’s current situation.

“We are happy that President Buhari has finally spoken out on the acrimonious manner some aspirants and their associates have been running their campaigns. We agree that it is not good for the party and its interest and that is why we invite everyone to see the decent manner that Mustapha and his team have been going about their campaigns,” stated the group leader.

He added, “It is someone like him that APC needs at this time to unify all the tendencies in the party as well as protect its interest.”

As one of the founding fathers of the APC, Mr Mustapha had been in the forefront of promoting the party in his media appearances, noted the statement.

Mr Ahmed noted that the way out of the present situation in the APC was for its stakeholders to support Mr Mustapha. According to him, Mr Mustapha’s antecedent in the party remains outstanding.

The APC natioal convention is slated for March 26.

The convention is to elect new national executives to manage the party’s affairs managed by the Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).
