Owen Nwokolo, the Anglican bishop of Niger diocese, has called journalists help the church fight against “principalities.”

“You must join the church to fight against principalities that seek the destruction of the house of God by tarnishing its image,” said the bishop. “The media should help us fight things like these by not taking sides and protecting the image of the church, which is here to serve human beings for development and salvation.”

Mr Nwokolo made the call when the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra council, paid him a  visit at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha.

He described journalism as a veritable tool for the development and advancement of knowledge.

The bishop called on journalists to make their medium available for dissemination of truth and proper evangelism in society.

“We are in love with the media. They are part of our team. So, I call on you to use your occupation to spread the gospel and truth,” he added. “The Church will give the support to make media work successful. Without the media, development of evangelism would be difficult.”

Mr Nwokolo further encouraged journalists to project the church positively through accurate and balanced reporting.
