How Laycon transformed from an underdog to #BBNaija’s top talent export

Nicknamed the “king of big brother”, Laycon made winning the show seem easy.

Big Brother Naija season 5 winner, Olamilekan Agbelesebioba, popularly known as Laycon

Winner of the Big Brother Naija Lockdown Olamilekan ‘Laycon’ Agbelese may have exceeded his predecessors and pairs to emerge one of the show’s biggest exports so far.

The now recognised music star entertained “Shine Ya Eye” housemates as a big shot performing artist during the Saturday night live party on September 25, 2021.

A great deal of improvement from a year ago when Laycon was profusely ridiculed on arrival to the house as a result of his “uninteresting look” and wild differentiation from his pairs.

Before the Season 5 edition ended, the 27-year-old stole viewers’ hearts with his personality, intelligence and musical talent to become the housemate with the greatest “stans”.

Like several previous musically inclined housemates before him, Laycon said his sole purpose for getting into the show was to achieve fame in music.

The UNILAG graduate consistently proved that his talent wasn’t in contention, beginning with his “fierce” track before the show and his musical exhibits during the show.

Laycon did not only emerge as the winner of the show, but he also became one of the fastest-growing icons now being ‘stanned’ by millions in Nigeria’s music industry.

Nicknamed the “king of big brother”, Laycon made winning the show seem easy. He’s been appointed youth ambassador of Ogun state and bagged numerous endorsement deals.

His outstanding albums such as “Who is Laycon” and “Shall We Begin” have landed him significant recognition in a very competitive music industry, collaborating with highly listened artists such as Mayokun, Joeboy, Teni, and many others.

Beyond hit collaborations with top music artists, Laycon was asked to perform at the international Grammy Recording Academy Series ‘press play at home’ on July 1.

Although he may not be the most successful housemate to emerge, it’s safe to say he is the most successful music star to ever penetrate the industry using the reality show.

Despite having performed for a larger crowd on stages and events, one must acknowledge the significance of how barely a year after his time at the show, he would go back to the very stage where he started as a “contestant” to perform as a bigshot rapper.

Now there is the big question of whether he can at this pace, sustain this new fame?

“Definitely,” Dype Shibayan, a chronic BBNaija enthusiast, believes, adding, “This guy knows what he wants, and he knows how to get it. He is extremely talented no doubt, and he is making a name for himself.”

Laycon’s current achievement is no surprise, but the timing at which he’s been able to achieve all that he’s dreamt of is a shocker.

“Just last year, Laycon was dancing his life out at the Lipton party. Fast forward, he’s performing for the same brand and show. If I were those housemates, I’d be asking myself, did I use this platform well during my stay, cos this show brings endless opportunities,” @Iammarels opined.

The BBNaija platform has provided Nigerians with five outstanding winners so far, however, Laycon has proved there’s more to winning the show than just bagging multimillion-naira endorsement deals here and there for a fading period.
