Nollywood actress Ini Edo announced the birth of her baby girl in a recent interview on December 3.

In the interview with Stella Dimoko-Korkus, she revealed the use of a surrogate mother to birth her child.

Speaking on the surrogacy process which she described as expensive, she said, “I do have a daughter and I had her through surrogacy. The eggs are mine and so genetically, she’s my blood. I chose this path to fulfil my dream of becoming a mother… starts with the stimulation process, egg retrieval and insemination on the chosen surrogate”.

The actress reckons that it is better to be a mother via donor sperm to avoid social media controversies and banter between mothers and fathers.

“I opted for a donor for me and my baby’s peace of mind… It scares me so much when I see banter and controversies between a mother and father over a baby in public forums or when I see the man insisting he wants his child if things don’t work out between both parties… For me, it’s the fear of what that would mean for the child.”

Speaking further on the topic, the Nollywood star said “I am well and capable of taking care of my own child as I’ve been taking care of myself. I wanted a child and thank God for the option of surrogacy and donors..”

With this announcement, came mixed reactions from fans, well wishers and Nigerians at large.

@nammyboss commented “Wow! Congratulations to her. It’s high time we accept surrogacy in our country.”

@olawandez commented “Is it because she doesn’t want to alter her body shape or chemistry?!”

@hiddenfigure3 commented “I love this for her, congratulations Ini Edo, it’s high time we all accept we can all enjoy motherhood differently. If you want it and can’t have one yourself, science and technology has made things easier and accessible.”

@Tjnstyn commented “A psychological setback for the child when he/she grows up asking questions who his/her father is.

“No name of Father to even tell her child.

She should kuku name the father ‘Donor Edo’.”

@chinenye_nwa1 commented “Congratulations to her… Her life, her choice.”

@ogheneogagap commented “Rubbish after u have pass under through the knife 🔪 how will able to carry your own pregnancy.”
