The government of Kaduna on Tuesday announced that the ban on the operation of private and commercial motorcycles in the state remains in place until further notice.

The ban applies to the use of motorcycles for both commercial and personal purposes.

“Kaduna State Government wishes to inform citizens that the ban on the use of motorcycles (popularly known as Okada) for commercial or personal purpose remains in place until further notice,” commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said in a statement.

Mr Aruwan listed other containment measures, which also remained fully in place, as a ban on wielding dangerous weapons, restrictions on the movement of tricycles from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi, Chikun, Kachia, Kagarko, and Kajuru Local Government Areas.

“The state government continues to empathise with citizens over difficulties which these measures may engender and implores all residents to comply fully with the measures in the wider interest of general security,” the commissioner said.

The state government had in September last year issued a three-month ban on the operation of motorcycles in the state, as part of measures to assist security agencies in parts of the state.

It had also suspended telecom services in some parts of the state to curtail insecurity. The suspension was, however, lifted in November.
