The Oyo state government says it plans to kick off the pilot phase of its Residents’ Registration Programme on Monday with the registration of commercial transport operators at various locations in Ibadan, the state capital.

In a statement issued on Friday in Ibadan by Bayo Akande, Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on ICT, the state government said the category of commercial transporters to begin registering on Monday include okada, tricycle and taxi operators.

Mr Akande said, “Once the pilot phase is successful, we intend going on to other sectors across the entire local government areas in the state.”

“One of the benefits of starting with the transport sector is that it will give the state the opportunity to deal with the security concerns that usually emanate from the sector.

Other benefits include access to government incentives, health and vehicle insurance,” he stated.

Mr Akande explained that each commercial transport operator would be issued an identity card and a reflective jacket, customised with the registrant’s unique number.

According to Mr Akande, officers of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency would enforce the project when concluded.
