Kaduna court remands man for defiling nine-year-old girl

The accused is alleged to have lured the girl into an uncompleted building where he committed the act.

A 36-year-old unemployed man, James Austin, is to be remanded in a correctional centre for defiling a nine-year-old girl, a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ court ordered on Tuesday.

Mr Austin, who resides at Barnawa in Kaduna State, is charged with defilement.

The prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, told the court that Mr Austin committed the offence on August 5.

Mr Leo said that Mr Austin defiled the minor in an uncompleted building.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Penal Law of Kaduna State, 2017.

The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not take Mr Austin’s plea and ordered that he be remanded in a correctional centre.

Mr Emmanuel directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

He adjourned the case until September 8 for the DPP’s advice.
