A 32-year-old labourer, Sani Abubakar, has been remanded by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for defiling his neighbour’s nine-year-old daughter.

Mr Abubakar, who resides at Malali, Kaduna State, is being tried for defilement.

The prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court on Wednesday that Mr Abubakar committed the offence on September 28.

Mr Leo said that the defendant had carnal knowledge of the girl in his room after she returned from an errand he sent her.

The prosecutor added that the defendant was arrested when the mother questioned the nine-year-old on why she was not walking normally and she told her what the defendant did to her.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 137 of the Penal Law of Kaduna State, 2017.

The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, who did not take Mr Abubakar’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in a correctional centre.

Mr Emmanuel, however, directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

He adjourned the case until October 29 for the DPP’s advice.
