The judge, however, gave him an option to pay a fine of N20,000.

• July 30, 2021

A 24-year-old man, Adamu Yusuf, has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the Kano State Shari’a court for wandering.

The prosecution counsel, Abdul Wada, informed the court that the complainants, Maikudi Mohammad, Garba Dawaki and Abdullahi Musa, all of Gandun Albasa Quarters, jointly reported the case at the Kwalli police division in Kano on July 27.

Mr Wada said that at 4:00 a.m, the defendant was caught sleeping where the complainants parked their vehicles.

He said that the defendant could not give a satisfactory answer to the police when he was caught.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 314 of the Kano state shari’a court penal code.

The judge, Bello Khalid, sentenced Mr Yusuf to one-year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

Mr Khalid, however, gave Mr Yusuf an option to pay a fine of N20,000.
