Kebbi state assembly impeaches speaker, deputy speaker

Reason for the impeachment was not given, except that 20 out of the 24 members of the assembly attended the session.

Lawmakers of the 24-member Kebbi House of Assembly have impeached the house speaker, Abdulmumeen Kamba, and his deputy, Muhammad Buhari-Aleiro.

The impeachment was announced by Muhammad Tukur, Chairman, House Committee on Information and Culture, shortly after closed door plenary on Tuesday.

Mr Tukur did not disclose the reason for the impeachment of the principal officers, except that 20 out of the 24 members of the assembly attended the session.

According to Mr Tukur, those who attended the session included “the Chief Whip, the House Leader and the Deputy House Leader, among other 20 members.”

The speaker was immediately replaced by the Deputy Chief Whip, Muhammad Abubakar-Lolo, while the deputy speaker was replaced by Muhammad Ankwai.
