Lagos Assembly probes MDAs indicted by auditor-general

A lawmaker explained that the exercise was an antidote to managing financial recklessness in various ministries.

The Lagos State House of Assembly has commenced the questioning of  Ministries, Departments and Agencies indicted by the Auditor-General’s 2020 Statutory Report.

In a statement by the House’s public accounts committee, PAC, on Wednesday, its chairman Nurudeen Solaja disclosed that the purpose of the exercise is to seek clarifications on outstanding queries, targeted at achieving improved service delivery.

“The aim of the committee is to invite all heads of the indicted MDAs and to seek clarifications regarding the queries raised in the Auditor-General’s report to enhance service delivery in the State,” Mr Solaja in the statement said.

Mr Solaja, who spoke before the committee quizzed the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency, disclosed that the invited MDAs will answer questions relating to their oversight functions concerning the report.

He explained that the exercise was an antidote to managing financial recklessness in various ministries.

Mr Solaja said the committee will confirm the revenue and examine budget performances of all MDAs, reconciliation of the financial records with the Oracle System of the of MDAs.

The committee will also ascertain the project management and control systems of MDAs in Lagos State.
