The minister was turbaned with the title “Kakakin Kabi” of Argungun kingdom in Kebbi State on Sunday

• September 26, 2021

Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed has been described as a detribalised leader working to promote unity in the country irrespective of his ethnic identity.

These were the submissions of Suleiman Argungun, the Chief of Staff to the Kebbi State during the turbaning of Mr Mohammed as the “Kakakin Kabi” of Argungun kingdom on Sunday.

“With the likes of Lai Mohammed, Nigeria will continue to be one indivisible nation because, in his position as a minister, he considers himself a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria not for the Yorubas or the state he comes from.

“This is the kind of people we want, not those who will inculcate disunity amongst us. That’s why he visited many states of the federation to promote the different indigenous cultures of our people and in essence to promote unity,” Mr Argungu said on Sunday.

He appealed to all Nigerians to accommodate and tolerate one another to facilitate brotherliness, love, understanding and unity for the good of all.

On his part, Mr Mohammed appreciated the Emir of Argungu, Sama’ila Muhammad-Mera, for finding him worthy of the title and promised to ensure that the festivals in Kebbi State would be transformed to national and international status.

He sought the collaboration of the entire people of Argungu Emirate and Kebbi, in general, to do much more in promoting the famous Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.

Traditionally, “Kakakin” is an instrument that attracts announces the presence of the king and conveys the authority of the king on all messages transmitted to the population on behalf of the king.

The bearer of the title, “Kakakin Kabi” is now the spokesperson or image-maker of the Argungu Kingdom of Kebbi State.
