New Moon: Sultan directs Muslims to look out for Sha’aban 1443AH from Thursday

Sha’aban is the eighth month in the Islamic calendar which comes before the compulsory fasting month of Ramadan.

Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has directed Muslim Ummah to look out for the new Moon of Sha’aban 1443AH from Thursday.

The Sultan gave the directive in a statement signed by Sambo Junaidu, the chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto on Wednesday.

“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Thursday, March 3, 2022, which is equivalent to the 29th day of Rajab 1443AH shall be the day to look out for the new moon of Sha’aban 1443AH.

“Muslims are, therefore, requested to start looking for the new moon on Thursday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan,’’ he said.

Sha’aban is the eighth month in the Islamic calendar which comes before the compulsory fasting month of Ramadan.

Sha’aban is the second month of worship in command to make arrangements for the grand and magnificent month of Ramadan (the month of fasting and mercy).
