The Federal University of Education, Kontagora, Niger, has spent nothing less than N89 million on the construction of perimeter fence around the female hostel to enhance security there.

Its provost Faruk Haruna, on Sunday, said the fund was part of the N557 million spent on capital projects in the last two years.

Mr Haruna said that about N82 million was spent on the construction of a botanical garden and N17 million on the drilling of two motorised boreholes.

He explained that about N32 million was spent on the procurement and installation of furniture and fittings at the Arts and Social Science building and on General Education programme.

“We spent N44 million on the installation of furniture and equipment in the ICT building and spent N32 million on the construction of a 400-seater lecture hall for the Secondary School Education (Language) Programme.’’ he said.

The provost also said that N15 million was spent to construct the Chief Lecturers’ office and N83 million on the rehabilitation and expansion of the institution’s clinic.

He added that N 60 million was spent on the rehabilitation of students’ hostels.

“We shall continue to execute capital projects that will enhance academic excellence in the institution,’’ Mr Haruna said.
