The Nigerian Army said its troops killed scores of bandits and foiled a kidnap attempt by bandits during a raid on Zamfara communities.

One soldier was killed during the operation executed by troops of Sector 3 ‘Operation HADARIN DAJI’ Tuesday at Kabasa village in Magami.

The army spokesman disclosed this in a statement by Mohammed Yerima, in Abuja.

Mr Yerima, a brigadier-general, noted that the gun-wielding men had terrorised locals across communities before they met their waterloo.

“The timely arrival of troops forestalled a deadly kidnap and plundering operations by armed bandits which were underway.”

“They were swiftly engaged by troops who successfully neutralised scores while others escaped into the forest with bullet wounds,” Mr Yerima added.

“Unfortunately, one soldier paid the supreme sacrifice, and three others who sustained various degrees of injuries during the encounter are currently receiving medical treatment.”

The statement further disclosed that, in a similar operation, troops responded to a distress call and engaged bandits who were attacking Gidan Goga village in the Maradun local government area.

The army said it killed three bandits while several bandits escaped with gunshot wounds.

“Troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the bandits with superior firepower, killing three while others fled in disarray, some with gunshot wounds,” it revealed.
