“I can assure you that with everything being in the right place, a win against Kastina United is not negotiable.”

Rangers International FC of Enugu is hopeful for a win against Katsina United in its first match at the forthcoming Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

“Starting the league well will take unnecessary pressure off our team. It will also stabilise the mental state of the players as the league progresses,” said Rangers coach Abdul Maikaba said on Friday. “We are ready for the new season, and I can assure you that with everything being in the right place, a win against Kastina United is not negotiable.”

The League Management Company (LMC) approved December 17 for the commencement of the new season.

Maikaba, however, acknowledged that the “only obstacle before us is the distance and weather.”

“These are the two things that work against teams in Kastina,” explained the Rangers gaffer. “By this time in the far North, the air is dry because of the harmattan. So, you cannot play with the same energy we use to train here.”

Maikaba also mentioned that the team needed a better travelling plan, allowing the players to stay in Katsina for two days to acclimatise.

“We are preparing the players to let them know that everywhere serves as home,” added Maikaba.

The coach stressed that winning trophies and picking a continental slot at the end of the season made him join Rangers FC.
