No fewer than 41 suspects were arrested within three months by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo for various crimes.

The arrests were on crimes ranging from illegal dealing and transportation of petroleum products, operating private guards company, examination malpractice, falsifying COVID-19 results, stealing, child theft, and possession of hard drugs.

The NSCDC state commandant, Aniekan Udoeyop, disclosing this on Friday in Benin, said these arrests happened within his first 100 days in office.

Twenty-one were arrested for illegal dealing and transportation of petroleum products, four for operating a private guards company, three for examination malpractice, one for falsifying COVID-19 results, eight for stealing and child theft, and four for possession of hard drugs.

Mr Udoeyop said the suspects in possession of hard drugs were handed over to the state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

On assumption of office on June 14, Mr Udoeyop said he set about the job by “holding interactive meetings with officers and men of the command,” adding that he met “some lapses” which led him to take steps for optimum productivity.

“Today, 100 days after, we have these modest achievements to show, and I dare say that we will not relent in recording more successes,” the state commandant said.

Mr Udoeyop said the various departments and units of the command have had to work with limited resources to combat crime and make the state peaceful.

He disclosed that within the period, that an individual donated a Hilux van to the command, while five existing vehicles in the command’s possession got refurbished.
